What’s included
What we do
- timing belt (cambelt) replacement with the tensioner and pulleys – the whole kit, not just the belt
- timing chain replacement with the tensioner, guides and sprockets
- the water pump while we’re changing the belt – we recommend it, you decide
- valve timing set to the manufacturer’s specification
- cooling system topped up and bled after a water pump replacement
- a check that nothing is leaking onto the new belt – if it is, we message you before fixing it
The manufacturer sets the belt interval in kilometres and in years – whichever comes first. A belt ages even if the car doesn’t do many miles. A chain has no fixed replacement interval, but over time it stretches and the tensioner and guides wear – then it lets you know with a rattle or a fault code.
Before we start, we check what the manufacturer specifies for your engine and send you a quote on WhatsApp with the scope of work and how long it will take. With a timing belt that depends on the engine: on some cars it’s easy to reach, on others a lot of ancillaries have to come off first.
If the water pump is driven by the timing belt, we recommend replacing it at the same time: it’s right there once the belt is off, and if it fails later, the timing belt has to come apart again. We put it in the quote as a recommendation, and the decision is yours. At pick-up we show you the replaced parts.
